Turkish manufacturer has reached the milestone number of one million tractors. A joint venture between Koç Holding and CNH Industrial, TürkTraktör makes tractors for New Holland, Case IH and Steyr. The one-millionth unit to leave the line was a New Holland TR5.110.
TürkTraktör makes tractors, engines (600,000+ so far) and all parts at its two facilities in Ankara (25ha) and Sakarya Erenler (40ha of which 6.8ha is covered). The latter is believed to be one of Europe’s largest tractor plants with four assembly lines, two paint shops with eight fully automatic robots and six tractor test rooms. The production capacity of the two factories is 50,000 tractors per year.
Engine blocks, crankshafts, cylinder heads, brake systems, axles, shafts and gears are all produced in-house, and the two plants, which also supply parts to other CNH Industrial sites, is the main design centre for New Holland TDD and Case IH JX series tractors which are still sold in certain markets. They are also the main production centre for utility light series tractors and the only engineering and manufacturing centre for 66 series transmissions.
Launched last summer, the Stage V New Holland TR6 (116-145hp, a trio of four-cylinder and a pair of six-pot models) series is not only the most powerful range made by TürkTraktör, but also believed to be the most powerful models built in Turkey. This is produced for the Turkish market hence the TR range designation.
For the record, the company produced its first tractor in 1955. The 100,000th tractor left the line in 1978. The 500,000th unit was driven off the line in November 2007 and tractor number 800,000 in 2016.
The Turkish tractor maker reckons to single-handedly account for 86% of tractors exported from the country. Delivered to 130+ countries, the main ones are North American and Europe. Here we would be most familair with the TD5 and Case IH Farmall equivalent.
Full year figures are not yet available, but the company produced a record 25,335 new tractors during the first six months of 2021 (34,937 total for full year in 2020).
TürkTraktör also makes construction machinery for Case IH and New Holland at a facility in Izmir.
