In order to save an extra pass when establishing cover crops, a farmer from Upper Bavaria has developed a seeding system for his plough
Not every arable farmer wants to give up ploughing … and Bavaria-based Mathias Maier is among this group. Wanting to include cover crops in his rotation, he was looking for a more timeefficient establishment option after harvest. While many farms will use a seeder mounted on a cultivator, Mathias sees this as having one major disadvantage — the seeds mainly end up on the surface. This isn’t so much of a problem for easily germinated seed, provided there is adequate moisture, but larger seeds can dry out if not drilled deep enough, leading to a compromise.
