Requests for a smaller machine to combine strip tillage and sowing have resulted in the development of a 3.0m Focus TD strip-till drill.
Fitted with a 3,500-litre capacity steel hopper (partition of 60:40), the optional 400-litre capacity MiniDrill provides a third component in the application process.
In the case of oilseed rape seeding, this can be metered with the MiniDrill and the two main hoppers can be used for fertiliser, increasing the output by a claimed 40%. Designed for strip and conventional drilling in one machine, the TerraGrip tine system creates a deep loosened area and fertiliser can be placed shallow, deep or 50/50.
The tine cultivation frame can be swapped for a compact rotary disc harrow, and the 3.0m Focus TD can be specified with the TurboDisc double disc coulter or the new TurboEdge tine coulter. Suited to row spacings that are larger than 25cm for oilseed rape and beans, Horsch says the TurboEdge works well in heavy soils or those with a lot surface trash.
The levelling discs can be swapped for a crumbling unit in front of the packer. Designed to crush coarse soil and provide a fine tilth in the seed strip on medium and heavy soils, the self-cleaning effect of the crumbling unit on sticky damp soils is said to be good.
