The decline in the power range of the 6,420 new tractors (over 50hp) registered in the UK during the first six months of this year was concentrated in the 100-140hp and 241hp+ brackets, reports the AEA. Registrations of 100-140hp tractors fell by around 17.5% and 241-320hp versions by approx. 16.0%. The number of new tractors registered above 321hp dipped by nearly 18%.
Between these ranges, there was a small increase in registrations, which were in the plus by roughly 3.0% for tractors from 141-160hp. There were also more new tractors registered in the 51-80hp range during the first half of this year. Given the widespread issues with supply chains, the AEA reckons these trends may reflect availability of tractors as much as demand for them.

The Home Counties was the only part of the country to see a substantial rise in registrations (+26%), which accounts for less than 5.0% of the national total but includes a high proportion of machines in the lowest power bands.
Small increases in registrations were also recorded in the west Midlands (+7.0%) and north west (+4.5%), but all other parts of the UK recorded registrations below the level seen in the first half of 2021.

The fall was sharpest in the eastern half of England, while Wales (-8.5%), Scotland (-4.5%) and Northern Ireland (-8.3%) all saw similar year-on-year declines to the UK as a whole.
