Ziegler PowerDisc PD 255-IC and EasyDisc HT 254-IC mowers … went to mow what turned out to be several meadows over the course of our comprehensive profi international practical test, in which we compare the specification and performance of two 2.6m wide mounted mowers from Ziegler, the company that bought out the complete Niemeyer grassland product range back in 2004. Mower conditioner models in question: The topspec PowerDisc PD 255-IC and more basic EasyDisc HT 254-IC.
Pitch up at any big national or regional grass demo, and the lasting impression given is that the UK’s mower market is dominated by 3-9m monster trailed and self-propelled units. Yet this is patently not the case. There remains a significant demand from smaller livestock and mixed farmers for what many would still look upon as the UK mower standard, a 2.4-2.6m wide mounted machine.
Which – surprise, surprise – is the mower sector we focus on here, with a detailed profi international test assessment of the Ziegler 2.6m PowerDisc PD 255-IC (£9,719) and similarly proportioned EasyDisc HT 254-IC (£4,678) mounted mower conditioners. More particularly we ask whether the PowerDisc PD model’s extra features warrant the £5,000 premium over its more basic mower sib.
Incidentally, both these machines, along with the entire Ziegler grassland range,
are shipped into the UK by Lincs-based Bonhill Marketing.
