Valtra’s fifth generation T-series tractors have been on sale here in the UK for a couple of years and, judging by the numbers out on farm, they’re selling well. This month we catch up with one of the first T174 units to arrive, working with a silage and slurry contracting outfit
Valtra’s T4 caused something of a stir when it first arrived on the scene in late 2014. It was the result of the first major overhaul of any Valtra product in a decade, and its success or failure was really make or break for the Finnish tractor manufacturer.
Fortunately the T4 proved to be a success, and the 140hp to 250hp range has been credited with a significant growth in the number of Valtras sold worldwide since its introduction. Key changes that set the T4 series apart from its predecessors were a completely new five post cabin, revised transmission controls, uprated front axle and cab suspension and some super-sleek styling.
Those updates made a huge difference to how the Nordic brand’s mid-range products were viewed. While the old line-up had become quite dated in appearance, the new generation’s looks, engineering alterations and high standard spec once more brought it to the attention of purchasers of top-end tractors. No surprise then that over the past three years T4s have been finding their way onto the fleets of farms and contractors traditionally dominated by other brands as well as being bought by diehard Valtra fans.
