Väderstad concedes the TopDown remains its mass-market cultivator. Those who prefer a tine-dominated machine, however, will be happy to see the arrival of more Opus models for the coming season, including this 5.75m 600

Realising that deep cultivations are not necessarily needed year on year, some large area farms are looking to have two machines in the shed: a wide working shallow cultivator, which in Väderstad’s case is a Carrier compact disc harrow; and then a narrower tine machine for deeper work. That’s where the Opus comes in with its big heavy-duty auto-reset tines, levelling discs and an integrated consolidation tool out back.

Here we’re looking at the Opus 600, which is pulled from the drawbar and runs on 550 tyres on the road. These combined with the 400mm depth wheels provide excellent depth control. Indeed the Opus just floated across the land in our driving impression.
