REPORT: On September 27, 2022, 25-year-old farmer’s son Tim Koep was engaged by AgriExperts Consulting to carry out a six-month project in Australia. With just four days notice, the young man from Schleswig Holstein boarded a plane from Hamburg to Melbourne. This was just the start of his travels.
Tim Koep grew up on a farm but was keen to travel to faraway places. This saw him complete an internship with MayBrothers Contracting in New
Zealand whilst he was a student at Kiel University of Applied Sciences. The seeds for his future travels were sown when he met up with AgriExperts Consulting (see page 81, Who are AgriExperts?) when he took part in a combine training course. The optimisation element was run by AgriExperts and it was here that he met the company’s founders Niels Schröder and Jens Broer. The three stayed in touch and, following the completion of his studies, Tim was asked if he wanted to travel to Australia on behalf of the company. He did not take long to say yes, which was handy. He had to be packed and ready to go within days.
Six months on the fifth continent
On arrival in Australia, Tim worked alongside German agricultural equipment importers Landpower, the company handling kit from big names like Amazone, Grimme and Claas. Tim’s key task was to help customers optimise combine harvester settings, but his initial job was to organise road shows for Claas tractors including the Xerion. This was part of a big project that saw Tim take eight domestic flights during the six month stay in Australia. He operated out of no fewer than 49 different locations, travelling from Melbourne in the south-east, across to the west coast and from there back to the south and along the east coast all the way up to Brisbane.
