The UniSpread from Vogelsang is a simple trailing shoe applicator that has been designed with smaller tankers in mind. We watched as the widest model, which spans up to 10.5m, was mounted on to a tanker.
Vogelsang added UniSpread trailing shoe technology to its line of slurry applicators in 2020. Available in working widths of 6.0m, 7.5m and 9.0m, there’s also now a 10.5m version that was introduced more recently. These sizes should meet the requirements of the vast majority looking for a tanker-mounted shoe injector in the UK and Ireland.
On the widest boom, there are 42 outlets positioned along the main box section frame. Slurry is applied through dribble hoses or the shoes; both are on a 25cm spacing. The booms fold vertically behind the tank.
Although there is an overhang to the rear when in the transport position, this does have the advantage that it makes it easier to retrofit the applicator, as no brackets need attaching to the sides of the tanker. Also, you don’t need to worry about the tank’s diameter and length in this configuration.
What to consider
Basically the UniSpread boom is designed for smaller tankers; Vogelsang has even fitted these to 7m³ tanks! With single-axle machines, it’s best if the axle is located as far back as possible. Otherwise, there is a risk of taking all the weight off the drawbar and a less than smooth ride on the road when the tank is empty.
