USED MACHINERY: Introduced in 1997, the six-cyl Renault Ares 600 tractors not only looked more modern than their predecessors, but also brought a welcome hike in technical content, too. In 2002 these first units were then superseded by Ares II ‘606s’. profi investigates further

Renault may not be in the top division in terms of new UK tractor sales, but used buyers should have no fears with regard to the pedigree of the French firm’s products.

For reassurance, just look at their basic make-up. Ares 600, and later Ares II ‘606’ models, are powered by Deere Power Systems engines, with transmissions, back axles and hydraulics produced in the Agco joint venture GIMA, sited adjacent to the MF factory in Beauvais. All other major components, such as the front axles, are produced by well-known firms such as Carraro. Importantly, with the company sourcing components from such suppliers, everyday service items should not prove too difficult to find.
