When we first drove the X7.670 in 2014 one colleague commented ‘it will be nice when it’s finished’. Two years later, when the X7.460 rolled into the profi test ring, the tractor impressed in many respects — but
even then there was still work to be done. So with the new generation of X7 now hitting the market, has McCormick finally got it right? Let’s find out …
It may still be the X7 range, but McCormick has made some significant changes to its mid-horsepower four- and six-cylinder tractors. The biggest of these is the move to the new ZF Terrapower back-end with five ranges and six powershifts (previously it was the T7200 with six gears and four shifts), all selected at the press of a button. This box is mated with the new Stage IV version of the same FPT block as before, with the addition of a new top model, the X7.690 — our steed for a couple of days.
