USED MACHINERY: There may well be a fair number of Kverneland Exacta fertiliser spreaders on the used market, more so if you also consider their Vicon RotaFlow stablemates as an alternative buy. The Exacta Geospread arrived in 2011, these offering more features than the all mechanical’ Exacta and becoming more popular as a result. These variants are the most sought after used buy.
An early heads up – Kverneland Exacta Geospread twin-disc fertiliser spreaders are also branded in Vicon and currently less common Kubota colours, a point to note if you are on the hunt for a particular spreader specification. It is the Geospread models we look at mainly here but ‘mechanical’ Exacta
variants share the same core spreading elements so much of what follows will also apply to these as well (also see profi used machinery, Vicon RotaFlow 03/2017). As Kverneland, Vicon and Kubota branded models are essentially all the same, you can cross reference alternative equivalents once
you have established the key spec and models on offer.
As a starting point, Kverneland disc spreaders fall into two broad categories: Mechanical adjustment Exacta EL, CL, HL with hydraulic on/off via spool valve. And the electronic controlled TL and Cl-EW with auto calibration alongside the top of the pile CL Geospread TL and CL-EW offer electronic control and auto calibration. Top of the pile are the CL Geospread, TL Geospread and TLX which benefit from section control. Spread widths vary according to model, the range covering 9.0m to 54m. The twin-disc spreading systems are fitted with six or eight vanes, with a choice of vane to suit selected spread width and / or application rate.
The Geospread control element has evolved. A key consideration is how the available ISObus you have on a tractor will interface with a used buy or whether the spreader comes with its own dedicated controller. A basic GPS controlled set up offers the potential to reduce spread overlaps and
improve accuracy when working in fields with tapered overlaps and awkward boundaries. From 2019, Multirate software developments were made available that enable variable rate applications on both sides of a suitably equipped spreader. This can divide the entire application width up into up to eight variable sections to further boost accuracy when working to tighter grid sampling and higher resolution maps.
