USED MACHINERY: There’s plenty of choice when it comes to wide tedders, with the key forage kit suppliers all offering wide area ‘small’ rotor models that are robust enough to cope with the heavy grass crops grown in the UK and Ireland. Here we assess the 8.70m and 10.80m Gyrotedder models from French manufacturer Kuhn
Although we have no test data on the current 8.70m Kuhn GF 8712 and 10.80m GF 10712 tedder models (launched in September 2017), the profi archives do cover the existing GF 10802 T in comparison with five alternatives from Claas, Fella, Krone, Lely and Pöttinger (profi Practical Test 03 and 04/2015). At the time the test was published, Kuhn had yet to launch its GF 10812 versions, the latter machines addressing our only significant negative with the GF 10802 model — the speed of its turns on the headland.
On the GF 10802, and the smaller GF 8702, the whole machine needs to be raised to lift the rotors out of work. On the mounted GF10812, trailed GF 10812 T and trailed GF 8712 T, Kuhn introduced HLC Headland Control. This new system speedily lifts all the rotors out of work, with those at the centre lifting to 500mm and the outer wings tilting up to provide even greater clearance. HLC is not fitted as standard to the mounted GF 8712 but is available as an option — something to consider if looking at one of these as a future used buy.
