Grass and maize silage baled and wrapped by the MultiBaler XL weigh at least 1.0t and sometimes much heavier. We’ve been to see the Dutch-made flagship in the range in action.
The interest in baling maize silage in the field is not just increasing in Europe, but also in far-away destinations, including China and India. Resulting in better compaction, less mould, and fewer bales to transport when buying and selling silage, it is a market that Dutch farm machinery dealer Knoll first tapped into more than 25 years ago with a variety of in-house made solutions.
One of the most spectacular was the Tawi Twin. Based on a modified Massey Ferguson 1839 baler, it was designed for non-stop baling and wrapping of small rectangular hay bales for hobby farms and horse owners. Bales were diverted onto one of two wrappers and the prototype was reportedly capable of baling and wrapping up to 150 bales an hour. In the end, they never made a second one, but the two men behind the Dutch company, Jan Knoll and his son Jarold, continued to mull over the possibilities, not only for small rectangular bales, but also for large ones.
Finnish connection
The family business has worked together with Agronic since 1997, initially importing the Finnish company’s bale wrappers. In 2008, Knoll decided to have a stab at developing a machine of its own. Agronic ended up supplying the wrapper and helped develop the MidiVario 85/100 Fix grass baler wrapper, which later hatched into the present day MidiFix and MidiFix II, all of which carried Agronic branding.
These machines were eventually joined by round baler wrappers, again finished with the Agronic name. It has been a successful partnership and in excess of 300 machines have been delivered to 50+ countries.
