Shelbourne Reynolds claims that vertical, ‘standing-up’ mixer wagons offer farmers a more flexible feeder package than the horizontal-type alternatives. profi travelled to Worcestershire to take a closer look at the firm’s new flagship feeder wagon, the Powermix 100/50.
Food processing takes many forms – stirring, whisking, beating, blending, grinding, screwing, folding… And the same applies to the mixing of feed for livestock. In the world of complete diet feeders, there is no dispute that the horizontal – paddle- (eg Keenan) and auger-type (eg Kverneland) – wagons reign supreme.
But the vertical, tub-type machine also has its advocates, and this appears to be a design concept that is growing, albeit steadily, in popularity amongst the UK’s stock farmers. Here we take a look at the Powermix
range from Shelbourne Reynolds, one of the more recent entrants on to the ‘standing-up’, vertical mixer scene.
The Suffolk-based firm’s full line-up totals four machines with capacities from 2.3 to 5t, but we concentrate on the new flagship, the 10m3/5t Powermix 100/50. In February we travelled to James Evetts’ Ryefield
Farm, near Wormington, Worcestershire, to watch the wagon in action.
