WORKSHOP: There is nothing new in fitting a camera to agricultural equipment, but how about fitting a system that needs no wires or complex set-up? Here we look at the reversing camera system offered by Bergmann & Koch.

First the obvious. Fitting a camera to large bits of kit can really boost all round visibility, improving safety and letting you get a view that would otherwise be blocked by the machine itself or obstacles. The Bergmann & Koch solar reversing camera system we look at here tempted us because it is portable and easy to fit.

What comes as part of the kit

Developed in Germany, the reversing camera kit we tried comprises a solar-powered reversing camera that can also be charged using a USB-C cable. The camera has a magnet base that will attach to any suitable metal surface. A key point was to ensure the metal surface on which the camera was mounted was clean and dry. The only mounting hiccup was that the plastic covering the magnetic base gave up the ghost after a short time, leaving us with ‘metal on metal’ contact. The included seven-inch colour HD monitor can mount via a bracket or window using the included suction mount. A remote control came as part of the kit although we did not use it. The monitor is powered through a cigarette lighter socket and is compatible with
both 12v and 24v systems.
