There was a time when the Rollant 46 was the one to beat in the round baler game, but then Claas lost its mojo. Today, however, the firm insists its new Rollant 540 is a very different beast and capable of meeting the needs of the modern farmer and contractor. To see what’s been tweaked, we take a closer peek
Claas is claiming its latest generation of fixed-chamber round balers has been massively improved on what came before, and, not only that, but it is also on a par with, if not better than, the competition, namely McHale and Lely Welger (the latter, of course, now falling under the Massey Ferguson and Fendt brands). Keen to add some additional clout to this statement, Claas points out it has been testing prototype machines in the UK and Ireland for the past four years, and there have been eight pre-
series machines knocking around our shores for the past two seasons.
