DRIVING IMPRESSION: APV has debuted a new slit coulter system for its GP grassland rejuvenator line. The range also welcomes a new wider model, the 7.50m GP750, which is the one we operate here.
Stitching in fresh seed to an existing pasture was once the domain of a tine-based grass harrow, but, with the increasing cost of seed, farmers are wanting a better guarantee that each seed will strike. This demands more precision and is where APV’s GP comes into its own. We had the opportunity to operate a pre production GP750 model that had already covered more than 700ha in the past season. Full production machines will benefit from a number of tweaks such as improved hose runs.
Getting going
The machine couples either to the link arms or a K80 ball. With the latter it is raised on the running gear and by an additional ram positioned on the drawbar. Also on the drawbar is the well-designed hose rack with somewhere to store the removed hydraulic pipes. In all, the GP750 M2 model requires three double-acting spools, which are used to control six functions from a toggle switch box in the cab. Added to this is a single acting spool with free return line for the seeder’s fan.
On the road, in the field
As the name alludes to, the GP750 offers a working width of 7.50m, which is 1.50m more than the GP600 that we had out for our driving impression in the 7/2022 issue.
