Practical test: Amazone UX 4200 trailed sprayer Decked out in its familiar green and orange livery, Amazone launched the UX trailed sprayer line back at Cereals 2004 with capacities of either 4,200 litres or 5,200 litres, and these first models have since been joined by a ‘baby’ 3,200-litre version. Main features run to a pear-shaped tank, 24-36m wide Super-L boom and simple control system. We try the 4,200-litre variant
As we have come to expect from Amazone, there was certainly no real shortage of specification on profi’s test UX 4200 trailed sprayer. At the heart of the Amazone machine, for example, lies the company’s proven setup of a pair of piston diaphragm pumps, capable of delivering a combined 530- litre/min output – 250 litres/min and 280 litres/min. The smaller of the two pumps is only used for agitation, while the more powerful unit takes care of the actual spraying task. The pump drive choice is 540rpm or 1,000rpm.
Moving back through the machine, the UX operator gains access to the tank lid via a compact yet convenient platform and ladder. First tip: Make sure the ladder is properly secured when folded up. Fail to do this, and there is every chance of it dropping and hitting an unsuspecting head. We know – to our battered bonce cost. If, on the other hand, the ladder is left down in the first place, then it will probably be crunched, as it stretches all the way to ground level.
Main reason for climbing up the ladder is obviously to inspect tank contents, but there is also the job of having to top up the 20-litre black hand-wash container. Why black? To prevent any algal growth – so eminently sensible. Not so handy, Induction hopper does its job, the wash-down ring and can rinse singled out by profi field testers for particular praise.

Amazone is looking to sort this issue, and will alter the arrangement on future machines.
