Having dipped its toe into the plough market with the Cayron, Amazone is now marketing a wider range of ploughs following the acquisition of Vogel and Noot
O ver the years we have seen several firms try to push Vogel and Noot in the UK and Ireland — but with limited success. Last August Amazone stepped in and purchased the manufacturing rights and production facilities of one of Europe’s leading plough businesses from the holding company. Buying a plough manufacturer may appear a curious move, given that Amazone had already developed its own plough range and recruited engineers with skills honed by roles with other market-leading companies.
However, as Amazone brand manager, Simon Brown, explains: “The Cayron is a high standard specification large plough and offers no opportunity for the development of smaller models. The Vogel and Noot acquisition has given us ploughs from three to six furrows, suitable for tractors from 70-380hp with a broad range of options to suit different farms.” Plus there is more to come at the larger end of the scale, he adds: “At Agritechnica in November we will be previewing semi-mounted and trailed units, with the opportunity to go up to 14 furrows.”
Slightly confusingly named Cayros — dealer salesmen will need sharp pencils — the new range comprises five variants: M, XM, XMS, XS and XS Pro, with details shown in the table on the next page. The M series is positioned as a universal plough for tractors up to 120hp and is available in three- and four-furrow versions, with a 120x100x8mm beam. Going up in size, the four-furrow XM is designed for tractors up to 140hp, with a heavier duty beam and a broader choice of point-to-point clearance build options. Aimed at larger farms, such as mid-sized arable units in the Scottish borders, suggests Mr Brown, the XMS series is a premium line offering increased underbeam and point-topoint clearance.
