It has been several years since we tested a simple GPS guidance system such as the featured Agricision OnTrak. This relatively low-cost unit boasts some spearheading features … but can it perform in the field?
The GPS assisted steering market has moved on in recent years, and, although most manufacturers offer some form of parallel guidance lightbar, their main focus is on the more integrated systems with a greater functionality. John Deere, for example, has even ceased production of its lightbar-based product.
Higher quality guidance systems that require a terminal tend to have some upgrade functionality, be it section control, ISObus compatibility or full auto guidance. The featured OnTrak system does none of that, but scores with its affordable price (£675/€785) and a number of other smart features.
The device is sold through the firm’s online shop or via dealers in certain areas. The ordered kit is supplied in a cardboard box with suitable protection and the shipment included the lightbar with an integral GNSS receiver and battery, a total of eight magnetic pads for mounting it on the bonnet, a USB charging cable and two optional mounting brackets — one for an IPhone and one for an IPad.
