Tractor test: AGCO RT120 Coats of many colours The US machinery giant AGCO has a number of tractor names within its stable and, as such, uses a variety of liveries. This month we try something a little different, checking out one of the company’s French-built tractors but one that is unlikely to ever be seen working on European farms. The AGCO RT120 may look like an Massey Ferguson 7400, yet this model is strictly for the Yanks only.
Brand management. It’s a real buzz phrase within the corporate world. And it’s here in the agricultural machinery sector, too. Who does it? And, more importantly, who does it the most successfully? Well, as
brand managers go, AGCO is certainly right up at the top of this parental pile. Massey, Fendt, Valtra and Challenger all come under the company’s banner, and then there’s a whole host of less familiar US names as well.
Staying with this theme, we decided to have a test look at a US-destined tractor, to see just what AGCO is offering farmers across the Pond and how it differs to what we receive over here – where the product divides in terms of spec and technology. After all, just because a tractor isn’t avail able in Europe does not automatically mean that it is of no interest to European farmers, and that’s precisely why we’ve put together this albeit truncated test. But let’s also make this plain from the start: There’s no chance of you getting AGCO’s RT120 from your local dealer, so don’t go hammering on his door.
