While it has big mowers and rakes, Claas has lacked an equally big tedder to complete the chain. That will change for next season as it introduces the Volto 1300 and 1500, trailed machines that carry the folded rotors along the chassis – a similar arrangement to most other makes.

The chassis has been kept relatively short, but to help with headland turns there is an optional Ackermann based steering system that comes into play when the machine is in its working position. This will be on the wish list of users who like to keep the tedder on the ground when turning on the headland like you had to do with the older trailed Volto 1300T.

It is expected that the 900T and 1100T will eventually switch to the new trailed chassis and if Claas wants to keep up the with competition then it is definitely going to need to add even wider models.

The rotor is the same 1.50m diameter, six arm design as the other Volto ‘100’ series with the MaxSpread arms introduced over 10 years ago. On the two new trailed models the interlocking finger drive system has been given some extra metal to deal with the extra rotors. Likewise, the gearboxes now use oil instead of grease filled gearboxes.
