Also able to spot spray from a prescription map, the system works by using combinations of four different capacity nozzles to offer up to 16 application rates, typically from zero to 800l/min.

A simple computerised nozzle selector lets the operator dial in the target rate, required droplet size, minimum and maximum pressures and the working speed range. The system then displays the available working range and it is also possible to ask the system to recommend the best choice of nozzles for a particular job.

Vario Select also offers flexible rate control, including turn compensation with the ability to instantly switch between nozzle types. “This feature will be particularly suitable for liquid fertilisers,” comments Brian Knight.

Fully integrated with the sprayer’s computer system, the ISObus compatible technique uses a gyroscopic to adjust output along the boom in curved tramlines.

The company says that regardless of the speed of the inner and outer boom sections, the application rate remains constant across the full working width.

Available on all new machines, Vario Spray costs up to £20k for a 36m boom. It can also be retro-fitted to almost all existing machines (£POA).
