If you are planning a trip to Agritechnica this November then the Systems & Components show might be worth a visit because it will contain a concept of what is described as the tractor and farm machinery cab of the future. Called the Smart CAB, it is the result of joint development work by 13 companies and associations, who have joined forces as the Cab Concept Cluster (CCC). Members include Bosch, Fritzmeier Systems, Grammer, Hella, Lumod design agency, TU Dresden University of Technology and the German Agricultural Society (DLG), and we understand the new cab will be similar to the Genius concept wheeled loader version unveiled at the German BAUMA construction show last year, but then developed for the farm machinery sector. The Genius features intelligent interior and exterior LED lighting, ultrasonic proximity sensors, and a 12” multi-touch display with graphical interface. The externally-located A-posts not only provide rollover protection, but also act as handrails and even include integrated lighting strips. An external and electrically-operated sunshade is part of the package, as is an illuminated door handle and logo in the seat backrest, while the seat provides a massage function! The Genius lacks conventional side-mounted rear-view mirrors, which have been ditched for images from wide-angle cameras. The images are displayed digitally inside the cab.
It remains to be seen which of these technologies will migrate to the Smart CAB. The only official comment is that the main theme of Systems & Components is ‘Stay Connected’, and the partners say the new concept cab takes connectivity to new high levels. Systems & Components is a separate show within Agritechnica. It will take place inside Hall 16 at the Hannover Fairgrounds.
