German mixer wagon manufacturer Siloking has developed a heavy-duty magnet concept that allows metal objects to be safely removed from outside the tub.

The benefits of fitting a magnet to a mixer wagon auger are well documented, but removing metal objects from them is not easy, given the close proximity of sharp cutting blades. Also, magnets are so powerful that they can erase a chip in a credit card and can do a lot of damage to a mobile phone.

Siloking reckons to have made the job a lot easier and safer with a system on show at Eurotier this week. The new bit with the innovation award silver medal winning solution is that the magnet, which is permanently secured to the base of the auger, is covered by a stainless-steel housing. The magnet is so powerful that nails, mower blades and even tedder tines, adhere to this housing.

The company supplies a tool to slide out the housing when metal objects simply fall off and can be collected. The company recommends checking the magnet once a week when feeding twice a day. The roughly €2,000-costing option can be fitted to all the firm’s trailed and self-propelled machines.
