With a maximum output of 400hp, the 8470 is the most powerful Massey Ferguson tractor ever made. A new addition at the top of the 8700 Series, the previous top model in the range, the 370hp 8437, also hit 400hp, but then only with a 30hp power boost provided by Engine Power Management (EPM). The 400hp in the 8470 is across the board, regardless of application, with EPM boosting the output to a maximum of 405hp during transport.

Other features standard to all six 8700 tractors include the newly-developed and ISOBUS compatible Datatronic 5 touch-screen terminal. This provides tablet-style operation and comes complete with automatic steering and a host of precision farming options.  The 8700 Series is one of the first tractors to be offered with the new Michelin AxioBib2 VF 650/85 R42 as a factory-fit option. Allowing the tractor to plough in-furrow, a feature of the new tyre is the flexible sidewall design. This places more lugs in contact with the soil to improve traction and reduce compaction. The 8700 Series is now also equipped with trailer air braking systems as standard, including an ABS signal for suitable trailers. There is also a new LED worklight package option, and new double angle wing mirrors. Other features designed to improve operator safety include integrated, folding steps on the right-hand side and new handrails.

A large, new toolbox, is mounted on the top of the fuel tank on the left-hand side and can be quickly detached to take the tools to the job or to store it elsewhere. Up in the cab operator comfort is further enhanced by a new leather seat option. The 8470 is expected to arrive in the UK sometime within the next couple of months.
