Sprayer manufacturers are looking to reduce boom weight and stress on the centre frame, and Hardi used the French show to gauge visitor interest for its first carbon fibre sprayer boom. The result of a project that started two years ago, we understand a prototype has been running in North America for the past 12 months. Designed as a three-dimensional woven structure, more widths will follow, but for now the material is used for the 4m breakaway sections at the end of the new 39m Delta Force boom. Stronger than aluminium, and easy to repair, the firm reckons carbon fibre is around four times lighter than aluminium and the 39m boom, which is already in production, is lighter than the firm’s current widest 36m spray boom.
