Looking for a new smartphone that is able to withstand a bump or two and survive a spell under water? Cat’s latest version could be an good option.
Flagged up as an ‘unbreakable’ rugged everyday smartphone, key specifications of the Android 10 (with upgrade to 11) device include a 4,200mAh battery, dual SIM, 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, and 13MP rear and 5MP front camera.
We are assured that the large and bright scratch resistant HD display can be read in direct sunlight, and the touchscreen can apparently be controlled with wet fingers or when wearing gloves.
Dust and waterproof (IP68), like all Cat phones it can be regularly cleaned by scrubbing with hot soapy water or disinfectant. We don’t suggest trying this at home, but the S42 successfully survived tests being submerged in water at depths up to 1.5m for 35 minutes!
Tested in salt mist conditions, the S42 operates in high and low extremes of temperature. It has also been subjected to vibration and tumble tests, with repeated drop testing from a height of 1.8m onto steel, including multiple drops onto every side and corner.
The Bullitt Group, the global licensee of the S42 reckons the £229 RRP makes it the most competitively priced device of its kind on the market. Available from July 20, the S42 comes with a two-year warranty.
