The mulchers made by German firm Sauerburger have been expanded to include a couple of versions for connecting directly behind a self-propelled forage harvester.

The maize worm or corn borer has become such a serious issue in many parts of Germany that it is no longer possible to grow maize for silage.

Causing yield and quality losses, one of the most popular ways to control it is to pulverise stubbles to the ground immediately after harvest to prevent the larvae from overwintering.

The latest machine to do this, the Sauerburger Pegasus Autark, is attached directly behind the forager. Available in two versions; 8000 (7.9m) and 9500 (9.5m), power comes from an on-board 6.8l John Deere 300hp Stage V engine. The diesel tank on both models holds 650l and each one has an independent hydraulic system (80l reservoir).

The 8000 model weighs 7.9t and the 9500 8.8t. On the road, the two machines fold to a height of 3.7m and 4.0m respectively, and a transport width of 3.0m.
