A strong expansion of the dairy herd and a growing milk output per cow helped Ekosem-Agrar, the German holding company of Russian milk producer Ekoniva Group, to expand its market-leading position in raw milk production in Russia last year.
With almost 105,000 cattle (approx. 52,000 dairy cows), milk production increased by 35% to 297,000t (220,000t in 2016), and currently averages over 1,370t per day.
Milk contributed nearly €124 million to the Group’s 2017 revenues of €174.6 million – up 47% on 2016’s €118.7 million. Ekoniva’s total farmland area increased by nearly two-thirds to 322,000ha in 2017 and the group currently provides jobs for 7,000.
