Although not new, two items from Topcon specialist LH Agro stood out at the Precision Farming Event. The CropSpec on-the-go canopy sensor (top) uses laser light in two near-IR wavebands to sense chlorophyll content in plant issue. Output auto-adjusts to vehicle height, ambient light and temperature; coverage-wise the maker claims the largest footprint in the mobile-sensor market. Useable alone but more normally mounted as a pair at cab-top height, the CropSpec sends data to Topcon’s X30/X25 displays for map production or for real-time variable rate control. A pair costs £15,985. Rather cheaper at £425 is the VDC remote control (bottom). Each button is configurable to a function on a Topcon display; the rotary control moves round the screen and selects items.
