As well as updated Jumbo wagons and new Alpha Motion front-mounted mowers, Pöttinger had this concept on its Agritechnica stand.

Called Flowtast, the plastic donut replaces the wheels under a rake rotor. Made from similar tough-wearing plastic as in plough mouldboards, it’s said to float over poached ground better than a traditional wheel.

Most effective on wet and peaty soils, the donut’s suspension properties result in a 10% higher driving speed, says the company. Other claimed benefits include lower vibration, smoother running, reduced wear and a higher quality material  with less soil contamination.

The design will undergo further testing during 2020 on an 8.4m Top 842 two-rotor rake.
