Operators are said to enjoy pin-point precision, less fatigue, and faster cutting speeds with the latest version of the Spearhead ProPilot control system on new Twiga Pro and Flex reach arm mowers.
Developed following customer feedback and described as the most technologically advanced ProPilot so far, it comes with a larger 10-inch touchscreen, and new features of Auto-Level and Autopilot.
Described as a game changing function for technology-driven contractors and large scale farmers, Auto-level maintains the cutting head angle automatically (up to three fixed angles can be pre-set).
Remaining in play when the arm height is changed, Auto-Level is said to make precision hedge cutting easier without draining the operator’s concentration from hours of manual angling.
“Precision is crucial for operators choosing high-performance equipment like the Twiga,” comments Antony Prince, director of sales and marketing at Spearhead Machinery. “Head angle is a big contributor to this. So, we’ve evolved our existing technology to provide the most effective functionality possible.”
Autopilot replaces the mechanical automatic verge float system with an electronic concept that monitors the pressures to adjust the cutting height every few milliseconds. Reducing the weight of the arm by around 70kg, claimed benefits include faster forward speeds (up to 20km/hr when conditions allow) and higher productivity.
“With less weight on the roller and less strain on the arm, the machine is better protected, whatever the reach. And the operator has less functionality to control manually. It makes their life much easier.”
Engaged with one click of the joystick or 10-inch touch screen, it can be disengaged momentarily when passing an obstacle. The activity of up to six jobs at once can be recorded and it is possible to change function locations on the joystick for a bespoke set-up.
“We’ve listened to what our customers are telling us. When we can incorporate a desired function, we have done. These things make their lives easier and more productive.”
The built-in control panel is said to result in faster fault finding and a major improvement on the typical ‘laptop plug-in’ method of previous systems.
