It is difficult to see from the outside, but Vervaet is currently putting the finishing touches to the 2016 version of its self-propelled Hydro Trike.

In common with many tractor makers the Dutch company has hired in an industrial designer to develop new exterior styling. When the result officially breaks cover (probably at Agritechnica in November), then everything up front currently finished in the camouflaged livery will be replaced for a new look made by combining the latest lightweight materials with integrated LED lighting. Much of the rest of the update is found below the surface, and the inclusion of a 465hp Stage IV/Tier 4f version of the Paccar MX 340 engine. Located in a new and easier to access position below the cab steps, the 2016 machine will travel at a top speed of 40km/hr at just 1200rpm (currently 1400rpm). Capacities are also up, the diesel tank from 600 to 900 litres. On the slurry side, the standard 14cu.m. version on the three-wheeler will be replaced by a 16cu.m. version, while the 19cu.m. tank on the five-wheeled Hydro Trike XL increases slightly to 20cu.m., and the company is currently testing the prototype of a higher-capacity 10cu.m./min filling arm.  Finally, Vervaet has developed sensor technology to continually monitor slurry for its nitrogen content and automatically alter application rates on the move. Providing this season’s tests are successful then it should be available commercially early next year.
