The Burdens Group, which represented New Holland, and many other brands in Lincolnshire, has gone. New owners have already been found for its four depots in Sutterton, North Kyme, Louth and Brigg.
A press release issued by joint administrators Gareth Rusling and Robert Dymond of Begbies Traynor, states that the Boston-based dealer experienced financial difficulties in 2023 and 2024.
“Having traded successfully for more than 50 years, the Burdens Group was a victim of problems hitting the farming sector with bad weather and changes to EU subsidies resulting in its key customer base reducing their spend,” explains Mr Rusling.
The sale of the business and assets has already been completed. Stevenage-based Ernest Doe & Sons acquired the Sutterton and North Kyme depots (See link) a few weeks ago. Russell’s (Kirbymoorside) in Malton is the new owner of the Louth and Brigg branches.
On another positive note, 68 jobs in Lincolnshire have been saved following the pre-pack sale of the Burdens Group. “We worked hard to quickly conclude a sale to two experienced agricultural businesses, and it’s fantastic that the sales have saved the jobs of 68 people,” adds Mr Rusling.
A significant amount of tangible assets which were not sold to either purchaser will be disposed of by Eddisons Commercial and are likely to be sold via auction.
