Visitors to this week’s SIMA 2015 have an opportunity to wear 3D glasses and enter a specially-prepared and darkened booth of the Argo Tractors stand for a peek at the new McCormick X8 tractor. Once inside, it is possible to zoom in and out on the computer generated image of a tractor that is initially heading for the McCormick stable.  The full technical spec remains under wraps, but the Italian tractor maker is prepared to disclose a bit more information than it did at last November’s Italian EIMA International. For starters, power to the three-model X8 range (260-320hp) comes from a Stage IV FPT SCR engine. Only available as a CVT, the transmission comes from ZF and McCormick’s most powerful tractor will be known as the X8 VT-Drive. Fitted with a hydraulically-suspended Premiere cab (noise levels 70dBA) and new seat, the result helps to reduce driver vibration levels by as much as 50%. X8 prototypes are out in the field in Italy, and the new tractor is heading for Agritechnica with production due to start mid-2016. It will not be at the Hanover Fairgrounds, but an 8 Series Landini is in the pipeline. The serious betting money is likely to be on a debut in November next year at EIMA 2016.
