Maschio Gaspardo is surprising visitors at this week’s Italian Eima show with what is believed to be the world’s first 10m power harrow.
Called the Jumbo X, the 7.5t implement was developed following customer requests for something wider than the current 8.0m Jumbo Super Rapido.
Maschio Gaspardo is showing two 10m Jumbo X power harrows at the Italian show this week, one on the company’s stand in hall 26, and the second on the innovation stand.
Designed for 450-600hp tractors, the Jumbo X comprises a 3.0m central power harrow, and two 3.5m outer ones. The two-stage folding process sees the outer ones fold vertically. Another set of hydraulic rams then lowers the units to keep the transport height to 4.0m (transport width is 3.0m). On the road, some of the machine’s weight is carried on the transport trolley.
Tests with the University of Bologna confirm that the wider width results in a 14%/ha fuel saving when compared to a 8.0m power harrow. Working at speeds of 5.0-8.0km/hr, outputs of around 5.0ha/hr are said to be easily possible.
France, Germany and Italy and the three main power harrow markets in Europe, and these three countries are likely to be the destination of the 10 pre-production units planned for next season.
The company stresses that 10m is the maximum and that it is not possible to go any wider and remain road legal.
