With an unladen weight of 8.3t, the CV228 is not only Landquip’s first 5,000-litre self-propelled sprayer, but also the Suffolk-based firm’s first CV fitted with a Stage IV Ad blue engine – a 228hp Mercedes MTU four-pot turbocharged block.
The 3.6m wheel base of the newcomer is longer than that on the existing 4,000-litre CV225 (3.2m). The company reckons this extra 40cm, and the new design of tank, results in an ideal weight distribution. Fitted with heavy-duty high-torque wheel motors, we understand that the CV228, which is also available with tank capacities of 4,000 and 4,500-litres, will replace the short wheel base 4,000-litre model.
The 1.1m of under belly clearance (with the 380/85 R34 row crops) on the company’s new flagship sprayer is said to be beneficial when spraying OSR, beans and maize (reduces to 1.0m on 600/60 R30 flotation tyres). The turning radius on both tyre options is 9.0m.
Available with aluminium booms from 24 to 44m, the company claims application rates of up to 500lit/ha at speeds of 16km/hr when fitted with Umbrella fertilizer nozzles. The standard 700litre/min hydraulically-operated centrifugal spray pump also doubles as a high capacity fast filling system loading the 5,000-litre tank in around eight minutes.
The spec of the newly-developed and high-vis cab includes a roof mounted air conditioning and filtration system, electric rear-view mirrors, air cushioned driver’s seat, passenger seat, cool box and joystick spray and hydraulic controls. GPS auto boom section control and variable rate applications are standard with auto steer offered as an option. The machine on show at Cereals is also equipped with hydraulic on-the-move track adjustment.
