Looking to make maximum use of your straw shed space? Then South Yorkshire firm Philip Watkins reckons to have the answer. When fitted to, say, a JCB Farm Master 416/418 loading shovel, the Watkins masted bale spike is claimed to stack 120cm x 70cm Claas Quadrant bales up to 14 high. Key to this capability, says Philip Watkins, is the spike’s 1,300mm of forward reach, which means the shovel operator is able to stagger the stack within the shed for improved stability. A hydraulically adjustable back frame enables the spike to grab four, five or six Quadrant bales at a time, and the spike is priced at £8,500.
