The main talking point of the new MLT 850-145V+ is the mini joystick steering system. Manitou reckons that the patented technique reduces operator fatigue and the risk of musculoskeletal disorders linked to repetitive steering wheel use.
While not approved for road use, joystick steering on a telehandler is claimed as a major step forward in terms of ergonomics and productivity.
Previewed at last week´s EuroTier livestock machinery show, the MLT 850 is the fourth model in the NewAg XL range, following the earlier launch of the MLT 841, 1041 and 961.
With a load capacity of 5.0t and a working height of 7.6m, power comes from a 141hp Stage V engine. Mated to the M-Vario Plus continuous variable transmission, the MLT 850 develops its maximum torque of 602Nm at 1500rpm. The hydraulic flow rate is 200l/min.
JSM Autopower automatically adjusts the required engine speed to the hydraulic movements to reduce fuel consumption. Other fuel-saving features include Stop & Start, which automatically switches off the engine when the machine is at a standstill.
The self-cleaning air pre-filter located above the engine compartment reduces the cleaning frequency of the main air filter, and the engine compartment opens in two parts for easy access to major components. A quick-release panel is included to blow out debris and dust in front of the radiators.
Other notable features include the HighView camera installed at the top of the boom to allow the operator to monitor the trailer fill level directly from the cab. In cab noise levels are a low 69dBA, and under-door lighting makes getting in and out of the cab safer in the dark.
The options list includes an automatic lubrication system and dual camera system for a 360° view around the machine on the dashboard display.
