Many of the new features on the 2017 versions of the flagship Claas Jaguar 980 and 970 are designed to increase output and reduce downtime. Replacing current models, main updates include a continuously variable front attachment hydrostatic drive option. This ensures that as the chop length is altered, so the speed of the header is also automatically altered, helping even crop flow and ensure a consistent chop length. In addition to the constant speed mechanical drive currently offered, this can now be combined with a hydraulic variable drive which provides maximum power at a constant speed for use with the Direct Disc or maize header. Hydraulic clamping for the shear bar is also new and results in greater accuracy and speed when setting the shear bar. During adjustment, the hydraulic clamp is released so that the shear bar can be set more accurately without resistance and then clamped back in its new position. Other 2017 model updates include automatic adjustment of the concave, which sees the chopping cylinder concave now linked to the shear bar. As it is adjusted, so the concave is also adjusted to ensure it stays parallel to the cylinder as the blades wear. The company says this results in a more consistent crop flow and saves fuel. Other new features include a new blade sharpening system, and the ability to use Auto Fill when filling to the rear, such as when opening a field, and new running gear allows the Jag to travel at 40km/hr at a low revving 1,300rpm. Updates to the pick-ups include the availability of Active Contour, which says Claas, allows for far quicker and more accurate ground contour following.
