Holmer’s self-propelled Terra Variant 585 and 600 eco models are proving popular for slurry injection work following AGCO’s decision to pull the plug on the TerraGator, but for some the nearly 600hp vehicles are too powerful, the 21m³ slurry tank too large and the total weight too heavy.
With these potential customers in mind, the company has developed a smaller and lighter version called the Terra Variant 435. Powered by a 10.7-litre 435hp Stage V-ready Mercedes Benz engine, the basic carrier vehicle weighs around 13.9t, which increases when the 16m³ Zunhammer slurry tank is added to around 17t. The standard Michelin VF 900/60 R 38 CerexBib 2 tyres allow pressures to be reduced to 1.2bar when fully loaded. The newcomer features a redesigned chassis (4.30m wheelbase), a new front axle suspension system and hydrostatic driveline (stepless speeds from 0-40km/hr).
Much of the rest of the spec, including the cab, 9,000lit/min Vogelsang pump and Cat III rear linkage, comes from the larger machines. The official launch of the Terra Variant 435, which is described as a useful machine for spring work or on planted areas, takes place at Agritechnica. The first commercial machines are expected to be ready for delivery early next year.
