UK importer Suffolk Farm Machinery is shipping in Maxam mowers all the way from New Zealand. Yet this isn’t just a mower, says the firm; it’s actually three machines in one — a mower, a topper and a spreader.
There are three sizes of the mounted unit — 2.5m 2500IV centre-mounted, 3.3m 3300IV centre-mounted and 2.5m MXL250 offset — and all of them share the same core cutting design: large cutting drums direct the crop into so-called Wilter tines that condition/spread the crop (these tines can be removed when wanting to leave a swath rather than spread).
Optional skids raise the cutting height of the machine for topping work. Price of the pictured 2500IV is around £7,500, although it’s the offset MXL250 that will probably end up being the more popular UK choice.
