Not every farmer/contractor wants to bang out 1.35m diameter silage bales all season. Some need the flexibility to produce smaller wrapped silage/haylage bales or larger unwrapped straw packages, and it’s these variable-bale-size businesses that John Deere is targeting with its 960 and 990 Kombi machines. Developed in partnership with Austrian firm Göweil, the JD Kombi variants replace the 900-series’s axle, drawbar and discharge ramp with Göweil’s wrapper and chassis, and, depending on host baler model, bale diameter can be varied from 80-160cm or 80-185cm.
