Priced at around £65,000, the trailed Merge Maxx 950 merger takes some justification. But this isn’t too difficult, according to Kuhn. The argument goes something like this: The price is about the same as that of a four-rotor rake; it gives gentler treatment of delicate, high-value crops such as alfalfa; it can travel faster; and it doesn’t pick up stones or other contaminants.
On top of that, the firm says the Merge Max is more flexible in that the right-hand and left-hand belts can be moved in/out and spun in either direction — to give a total working width of 7.5m as a side-discharge machine or 9.5m as a centre-delivery unit.
