Customers are asking for electric/hybrid solutions, says German Cat dealer Zeppelin, which could simply have shown an electric motor and battery at last November’s Agritechnica to highlight the possibilities of its power system division.

However, the company wanted a more eye-catching exhibit, hence the decision the remove the 12hp two-stroke diesel engine in this 1958-made Holder B12 and replace it with a 13kW electric motor and driveline! Known as the E-Tractor, it is the result of joint work with fellow German company eCap Mobility, which since 2015 has converted a wide range of different vehicles to electric drive, including Porsche and a VW Beetle. The Holder tractor rates as the most unusual project so far.
