For those of you who didn’t spot it at LAMMA, the Farm Machinery book has been brought bang up to date with the publication of Edition No.6. On this occasion compiled by long-time editor Brian Bell and new recruit Martin Rickatson, the much-loved tome contains many of the old familiar topics — it works through the core components of tractors and other field/fixed equipment, explaining how they function in the process — but then supplements this basic information with the latest developments in electronic monitoring, auto-steering, GPS mapping and applications, electronic engine and transmission management … and so on. Certain elements of the layout and diagrams may look a little dated, yet they remain a fundamental part of the book’s enduring appeal. More importantly, the text is written in a clear and concise style, so the information within is both accessible and easily understood. Which is why Farm Machinery is highly likely to remain on any ag student’s essential reading list for the foreseeable.
Publisher of the Sixth Edition of Farm Machinery is www.oldpond.com, and the hardback version lists at £19.95.
