Dutch-firm Farmertronics is developing a new concept of compact tractor that sees the diesel engine ousted for three independent electric wheel motors. Called the eTrac-20, the first full electric version of the three-wheeled unmanned vehicle will be fitted with a 30kWh battery pack, but the company plans to power the wheel motors directly from a hydrogen fuel cell on future versions. Farmertronics was founded in May 2012 by mechanical and software engineer Thieu Berkers, who sees initial potential for the concept with fruit growers. And no it is not an early April Fools’ prank. The company plans to unveil a prototype at a Dutch show in September 2017. B
