The off-highway hybrid concept Deutz is showing at this week’s Intermat construction machinery exhibition in Paris combines a 55kW TCD 2.9 diesel engine and a 55kW electric motor.

The first tangible result of the E-Deutz program started last year, the system provides the possibility to disconnect the diesel engine from the electrical system to power the vehicle purely by electricity (the lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 40kWh at 400v).

Benefits include being able to use a less powerful diesel engine and

the possibility to integrate additional fuel-saving functions, such as start-stop. The company says it may also be possible for ptos to run on electricity in future.

It depends on the application, but the company reckons in some applications customers will be able to recoup the costs of the technology in one year. There are no price or availability details.
